Ukrainian news as of September 8, 2026: massive strike on Kyiv, fire in Pryluky and consequences of new attacks

The night and morning of September 8, 2026 brought new severe tests for Ukrainian cities. Russian troops launched a massive combined strike with missiles and strike drones on the capital and a number of regions of the country. Residential areas, critical infrastructure facilities, and shopping malls were hit, there were fatalities and dozens of injuries. As reported by 34.ua , emergency services are working in an intensified mode at the sites of the hits.

News 1: Massive missile and drone strike on Kyiv: there are dead and wounded

The capital of Ukraine has suffered one of the most severe attacks in recent times. Explosions rang out in the city for almost five hours in a row as a result of a combined attack by missiles and drones. In Holosiivskyi and other districts of Kyiv, destruction of residential buildings, office buildings, and infrastructure facilities was recorded. As of noon, the number of victims had increased to 19 people, unfortunately, three people died. Rescuers of the State Emergency Service evacuated the blocked premises, and even the rescuers’ service transport came under repeated enemy attack.

“The enemy is purposefully launching combined strikes on densely populated areas of the capital, trying to sow panic and cause maximum damage to civilian infrastructure,” notes military observer Andriy Melnyk .

News 2: Attack on shopping center in Pryluky and power outage in six regions

In addition to the capital, the enemy attacked other regions. In the city of Pryluky, Chernihiv region, a shopping center came under enemy fire, where a large-scale fire broke out. Due to another wave of destruction of the energy infrastructure, emergency power outages were recorded in six regions of Ukraine – in particular, in Kyiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Sumy regions. Power engineers began emergency restoration work immediately after the end of the alarms.

“The consequences of the next attacks on the power system and commercial facilities require utility services to mobilize maximum resources to quickly restore life support,” emphasizes social expert Dmytro Savchenko .

News 3: Statistics of enemy losses and technological innovations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Amidst terrorist shelling of the rear, the Defense Forces continue to inflict devastating blows on the occupiers at the front. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the total combat losses of the Russian army are approaching 1.5 million people (approximately 1,499,390 invaders, of which 1,410 were eliminated over the past day). In addition, relevant agencies and the Brave1 platform reported on the successful large-scale testing of the latest Ukrainian drones with an artificial intelligence system for guidance.

“Technological re-armament and scaling of drones with AI are becoming a key factor in effectively deterring and destroying the enemy on the front lines,” says economic analyst Serhiy Pavlov .

PRACTICAL ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CITIZENS

Don’t ignore air alerts: due to combined missile and drone attacks, be sure to stay in cover or use the “two walls” rule.

Information hygiene: it is forbidden to publish videos and photos of the consequences of airstrikes, air defense operations, or the exact addresses of affected objects in real time online.

Prepare for power outages: check the charge of power banks and autonomous power sources in connection with local power outages in the regions.

Conclusion

September 8, 2026 once again reminds us of the cruelty of the enemy, who strikes at peaceful cities – Kyiv, Pryluky and other settlements. Despite the destruction, the dead and wounded, Ukraine holds back the blow thanks to the heroism of rescuers, the resilience of citizens and the systematic work of the Defense Forces on the front lines.
