Today has been one of the most difficult tests for the Ukrainian air defense system and civilian infrastructure since the beginning of the summer. Russian occupation forces carried out a combined and extremely dense attack on peaceful cities, using a record number of ballistic weapons. At the same time, despite the security challenges, the country continues to live: the most important stage of the entrance campaign has started in higher educational institutions, and the sports community has frozen in anticipation of the final of the world football championship. As reported by the analytical service portal 34.ua , the key events of the day demonstrate both the stability of the front and the invincibility of the rear regions.
Unprecedented attack on Kyiv and shelling of regions
On the night of July 19, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded 166 air attack vehicles , including 41 missiles and 125 attack drones. The air defense forces managed to destroy or suppress 126 enemy targets. The main direction of the strike was Kyiv, which was subjected to a massive attack by ballistic missiles “Iskander-M” / S-400 and hypersonic “Zirkons”.
The consequences of enemy strikes on the country were recorded in the following locations:
Capital and Kyiv region: More than 40 rocket strikes were recorded in Kyiv. Destruction and fires occurred in 5 districts of the city, a dormitory, an office building, and residential buildings were damaged. Currently, 1 person is known to have died and 15 were injured . Warehouses of a large logistics center were damaged in the Kyiv region.
Dnipropetrovsk region and Nikopol district: the enemy attacked Nikopol region and Synelnyky district with drones more than 10 times. Unfortunately, one person died in the Mezhivska community .
Sumy and Kharkiv region: 7 guided aerial bombs (CABs) were dropped on the Kovpakiv district of Sumy, damaging industrial and civilian infrastructure, and killing one person . In the Kharkiv region, in the village of Slatyne, CABs damaged residential buildings, and rescuers pulled a woman and a child out of the rubble.
Frontline reports: colossal enemy losses and strikes in the rear of the occupiers
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published updated data on the losses of the Russian army this morning. Over the past 24 hours, 1,520 occupiers have been eliminated. 92 artillery systems, 5 tanks, 7 armored vehicles, and 3 air defense systems have also been destroyed.
In addition, the Airborne Systems Forces (ASF) together with other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted successful operations at sea and behind enemy lines. It is reported that two enemy tankers and a floating crane were destroyed in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas, as well as a successful attack on 8 power substations in the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.
Expert opinion
Igor is a military analyst, aviation security specialist:
“A night attack on Kyiv using so much ballistics and hypersonics is an attempt to overload our Patriot and SAMP/T air defense systems. The fact that most targets were shot down or deflected by electronic warfare means indicates the high adaptability of the Ukrainian military. However, the enemy is changing tactics, relying on the speed and mass of artificial swarms of UAVs, which exhaust anti-aircraft missile systems. Parallel successful strikes by the SSB on logistics in Crimea and at sea are our asymmetric response, which undermines the offensive potential of the occupiers.”
SOCIAL AND SPORTS VECTOR: LIFE AFTER THE WAR
Despite the difficult security situation, state institutions and the social sphere are operating as usual, ensuring internal processes.
Applications to universities begin: On July 19, Ukraine officially began accepting electronic applications from applicants for bachelor’s degrees. Documents can be submitted through personal accounts until August 1. The main feature of this year’s campaign is the inability to change the selected priority after the final submission of the application.
2026 FIFA World Cup Final: The decisive match of the FIFA World Cup will take place in the USA today. The final battle for gold will see Spain and Argentina meet . Also, transfer news is being discussed in the football circles: the goalkeeper of the Ukrainian national team has been shortlisted by Juventus in Turin.
