Ukrainian News July 15, 2026: Air Terror in Odessa and Zhytomyr Regions, Civilian Casualties and Visit of EU Leaders on Statehood Day

Ольга ПетроваОльга Петрова—15.07.20260

Wednesday, July 15, was a day of extremely complex security challenges and significant political events for Ukraine. The country celebrates the fifth anniversary of Ukrainian Statehood Day in conditions of continuous air terror. Russian troops carried out another large-scale attack, using dozens of strike drones and missiles, which led to destruction and casualties among the civilian population. Despite the pressure on critical and civilian infrastructure, the air defense forces demonstrate high efficiency, and the state receives high-ranking European guests, confirming its irreversible course for integration. As reported by the information portal 34.ua , Ukraine is firmly holding the blow and continues the fight on all fronts.

News 1: Night and morning attack on Ukraine: Air Defense neutralized over 100 air targets

On the night of July 15, the Russian occupiers launched another combined strike. According to the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy launched 2 Kh-59/69 guided aircraft missiles from the airspace of temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as 122 strike drones (including Shahed drones, including jet modifications, Gerbera, Italmas, and simulator drones). The forces and means of Ukraine’s air defense shot down and localized 101 enemy UAVs. Unfortunately, missile hits and 18 drones were recorded at 19 different locations in several regions.

Expert opinion (Air Defense Analyst): “The enemy is increasingly using a mixed fleet of UAVs, launching cheap simulator drones together with Shahed jets to overload our detection systems as much as possible. Shooting down more than a hundred targets in such conditions is a colossal job for mobile fire groups and electronic warfare. At the same time, the breakthrough of some drones indicates the need to strengthen the protection of local facilities in the rear areas, where the enemy is trying to lay new routes bypassing the main air defense basing areas.”

News 2: Tragedy in Odessa and arrival at a gas station in the Zhytomyr region

The morning refueling of terror fell on the southern and central regions. At around 7:00 a.m., the occupiers launched another missile strike on Odessa. The missiles hit residential buildings in the city, resulting in the destruction of private houses. At least three dead and three wounded Odessans are currently known. In addition, in the Malynska community in the Zhytomyr region, an enemy drone attacked a gas station. A large-scale fire broke out at the gas station, which was promptly extinguished by rescuers from the State Emergency Service, and two people were hospitalized with injuries. Also, in the Pryluky district of the Chernihiv region, a 37-year-old man died as a result of a UAV attack.

Expert opinion (Civil Security and Logistics Specialist): “The strikes on gas stations in the rear areas are an attempt to intimidate business and create local tension with fuel. As for Odessa, the cynical flights over residential buildings in the morning, when people are still at home, are aimed solely at creating panic and increasing casualties among the civilian population. Such actions require immediate strengthening of the air defense of the southern port cities.”

News 3: Ukrainian Statehood Day: visit of Ursula von der Leyen and European leaders to Kyiv

Today, Ukraine celebrates Ukrainian Statehood Day. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the presidents of Moldova, Serbia and Romania, arrived in Kyiv on an official visit. The visit is dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the holiday and the coordination of our state’s integration steps. In addition to the ceremonial events, the leaders discussed the provision of additional financial and military assistance, in particular, access of Ukrainian companies to support programs for the EU’s defense-industrial complex.

ANALYTICS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CITIZENS

Enemy air attacks are becoming increasingly complex and combined. The preservation of life and the functionality of infrastructure depends on the consciousness of every citizen in the rear and front-line areas.

Practical recommendations:

Immediate response to alarm signals: short-range missiles are used in the area (especially from Crimea). If you hear a siren, immediately head for cover or follow the two-wall rule in the corridor. Your speed of reaction saves lives.

Strict adherence to information hygiene: it is strictly forbidden to publish photos, videos, or text descriptions of air defense operations, landing sites at gas stations, or damaged residential buildings online. Your publication is a free fire correction for enemy intelligence.

Support for city and utility services: rescuers who put out fires at gas stations and clear rubble in Odessa are working at their limit. Timely payment of utility bills supports the stability of the city’s infrastructure, allowing for the prompt elimination of the consequences of terrorist attacks.

Prepare for possible power outages: Keep your power banks charged and stock up on drinking water and long-term food due to infrastructure strikes .
