Ukraine News July 3, 2026

Ольга ПетроваОльга Петрова—03.07.20260

The end of the working week brought severe infrastructural and social challenges to Ukraine. The country is recovering from the consequences of large-scale air strikes of the previous day and is preparing for a sharp change in the synoptic situation, which should significantly affect the stability of the power system. According to the analytical center of the information portal 34.ua , state bodies and emergency services are working in conditions of increased mobilization to eliminate the consequences of emergency events and support the vital activity of all regions of the country.

News 1: Day of mourning in the capital – the number of victims of the massive shelling of Kyiv has increased to 30 people

Today, July 3, Kyiv has declared an official day of mourning for those killed in the large-scale enemy air terror. Rescue and monitoring services are completing the clearing of rubble in the Darnytsia district of the city, where the greatest destruction of housing stock occurred.

According to official data from the State Emergency Service, as of this morning the number of confirmed victims has increased to 30 people, including two children. Rescuers continue to work at the location, as the fate of three more residents of the building remains unknown. The capital’s authorities are providing resettlement of the victims to temporary housing and have organized the work of legal and psychological assistance points.

News 2: Night strike on Sumy region and Kryvyi Rih region — air defense neutralized 82 drones

On the night of July 3, the enemy carried out another combined attack, launching two Kh-59/69 guided aircraft missiles and 105 strike drones of various types (including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas jets) over the territory of Ukraine. Air defense units destroyed and suppressed one missile and 82 enemy UAVs.

Despite the high effectiveness of the sky defenders, civilian infrastructure was hit in several regions:

Sumy region: An enemy drone hit a residential building. The consequences were tragic – four people died, including a one-year-old girl and her mother, and three more people were injured.

Dnipropetrovsk region: In Kryvyi Rih, seven citizens were injured as a result of night shelling, an enterprise and educational institutions were damaged. In the morning, the enemy struck a gas station in the Sofiivska community of Kryvyi Rih district, where one person was killed and three were injured. An infrastructure facility in Kamiansky district was also damaged.

News 3: Cold atmospheric front brings thunderstorms and lower temperatures to Ukraine

After a long and exhausting July heat wave, which created extreme loads on energy facilities, the weather situation in the country is starting to change dramatically. A cold atmospheric front has begun to move across the territory of Ukraine.

In most regions, except for the eastern part of the country, short-term rains, thunderstorms and sometimes gusty winds are expected on July 3. The most noticeable drop in temperature indicators is recorded in the western regions, as well as in Zhytomyr, Kyiv and Vinnytsia regions, where thermometers will drop to a comfortable +24°C … +29°C. In the capital, the heat will subside to +27°C, which should reduce the level of electricity consumption by household consumers and make the work of Ukrenergo dispatchers easier. In the southern and eastern regions, the heat of +34°C will linger for another day.

Expert opinions

Andriy Savchenko, a leading analyst in the field of energy security and macroeconomics: “The passage of a cold front and a 5-7 degree drop in temperatures in the northern and western regions is a significant relief for the bloodied power system. Every degree down reduces national consumption by hundreds of megawatts, as citizens turn off their climate systems. This will allow us to shorten the duration of hourly outage schedules. However, we should not have any illusions: scheduled repairs at nuclear units are ongoing, and damage to main nodes from previous shelling has not disappeared. We need to use this temporary weather window to accelerate restoration work at substations before the next wave of summer heat.”

Valeriy Kozak, military observer, tactical weapons specialist: “The enemy’s use of a diverse range of drones in a night attack, including cheap Parody-type simulator drones and plywood Gerberas, indicates an attempt to exhaust and confuse our air defense system as much as possible. They create false targets on radar screens, forcing us to waste expensive anti-aircraft missiles. In these conditions, the role of mobile fire groups and electronic warfare (EW) equipment, which are capable of landing or shooting down such devices without using scarce missile weapons, is increasing. At the same time, the tragedies in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions demonstrate that even suppressed or shot down UAVs pose a huge threat due to the falling debris with warheads on residential buildings.”

Recommendations and safety measures for citizens

Given the storm warnings and safety risks, specialized services recommend:

Actions during bad weather: During strong gusts of wind, avoid being under tall trees, billboards, and power lines. Close windows and balconies tightly.

Responding to alarms: Do not ignore air danger signals, especially in border and frontline areas, where the approach time of missiles, KABs, and jet drones is minimal.

Energy discipline: despite the drop in temperature, continue to use electrical appliances rationally during peak load hours (from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM) to maintain the stability of local distribution networks.
