Monday for Ukraine began with the accompaniment of intense work of air defense and liquidation of consequences of the next combined strikes on civil and logistic infrastructure. In parallel, the country celebrates the Day of Mourning and Commemoration of the Victims of World War II, drawing tragic parallels with current events. As reported by the main editorial office of the information portal 34.ua , state institutions and international partners continue to coordinate steps to strengthen defense and social support for citizens.
News 1: National Security — Night Attack with Iskander and 88 Drones, Air Defense Shoots Down 79 Targets
On the night of June 22, Russian troops launched another massive strike on the territory of Ukraine. According to official data from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy launched an Iskander-M ballistic missile from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, as well as 88 strike UAVs of various modifications . Mobile fire groups and anti-aircraft units demonstrated high efficiency, destroying 79 air targets .
However, it was not possible to completely avoid hits and destruction:
Sumy region: a residential building belonging to a large family was hit by KABs – three people were killed (a 13-year-old boy, his father, and grandmother), and three more family members were injured.
Zaporizhzhia: swarms of drones attacked sleeping quarters, destroying private homes – fires were recorded, a woman died, and an 11-year-old child was among the injured.
Odessa region: an evening ballistic strike by an Iskander hit the territory of an agricultural enterprise in the Odessa district – one person was killed, three were injured.
Expert opinion (Maksim Gavrylenko, analyst at the Center for Defense Technologies): “This night attack demonstrates a change in the tactics of using drones. The release of almost 90 drones in one night is an attempt to maximally exhaust the ammunition of our mobile fire groups before the start of the working week and to probe new air defense corridors in the border regions. The change in vectors in Sumy region and repeated waves in Zaporizhia indicate that the enemy is trying to create constant psychological pressure on the civilian population. The effectiveness of the shootdown of almost 90% is an excellent result for our defenders, but the ballistic threat and heavy guided bombs require a radical increase in the number of modern Patriot and SAMP/T systems.”
News 2: Historical Memory — Ukraine Commemorates the Day of Mourning Against the Background of Modern War
June 22 is officially celebrated in Ukraine as the Day of Mourning and Commemoration of the Victims of World War II. It was on this day in 1941 that Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union, turning the Ukrainian lands into the main and bloodiest theater of hostilities in Europe. At that time, the war claimed the lives of about 10.4 million Ukrainians. The President and government officials made addresses, emphasizing that today, 85 years later, the Ukrainian people are once again forced to defend their land from a totalitarian aggressor.
Expert opinion (Olena Bortnytska, Head of the Department of Historical Memory and Political Science): “Today, June 22 is perceived by Ukrainian society in a completely different way than it was a decade ago. The Soviet myth of the “fatal June 22” has been finally destroyed by modern Russian aggression, which copies the worst methods of Nazism – from bombing sleeping cities at 4 am to deporting children and creating filtration camps. Now this date is a day of deep national mourning for all those who died in the 20th and 21st centuries. History teaches us the main thing: any appeasement of the aggressor only brings a new catastrophe closer, which is why the slogan “Never Again” has today transformed into a clear “We Will Win Again”.”
News 3: Social support – 80 million euros will be raised for housing for internally displaced persons
An important socio-economic event on Monday was the official announcement of a powerful financial assistance package from European partners. Ukraine will receive 80 million euros , which will be specifically aimed at providing permanent and temporary housing for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The program provides for both the purchase and reconstruction of ready-made housing modules in the rear regions (Center and West of Ukraine), as well as preferential long-term lending for families who lost their homes in the zone of active hostilities.
Expert opinion (Ihor Radchenko, financial analyst, housing program consultant): “These 80 million euros are a critically needed injection into the Ukrainian social protection system. The problem of IDP integration is very acute, as hundreds of thousands of people still live in unsuitable shelters or kindergartens. The main task of the government now is to ensure absolute transparency in the distribution of these funds through the digital tools of the “Diya” system and involve local communities in control. If the money goes not just for “cosmetics” of dormitories, but for the construction of energy-efficient municipal housing, this will significantly reduce the burden on local budgets and provide an incentive for the construction sector of the economy.”
Economic and utility monitoring
Real estate taxes: the State Tax Service reminded Ukrainians that by July 1, citizens will be issued receipts for payment of tax on “excess” residential real estate (for apartments with an area of over 60 sq. m and houses with an area of over 120 sq. m) for the previous reporting year.
Energy regime: according to Ukrenergo, due to significant damage to the infrastructure and the beginning of the summer repair season at nuclear power plants, planned stabilization schedules of consumption restrictions will be applied throughout the country on the first day of the week.
Currency exchange rate: The National Bank of Ukraine set the official exchange rate for June 22, recording minor fluctuations in the hryvnia against the euro and the US dollar on the interbank market, the situation remains controlled thanks to regular interventions by the regulator.
