The struggle for life and stability of the front: main events in Ukraine as of July 6, 2026

Ольга ПетроваОльга Петрова—06.07.20260

Ukraine – Dnipro, July 6, 2026. The current day in the fifth year of the great war has once again demonstrated the readiness of Ukrainian society for a long confrontation and the high efficiency of the defense sector. Russian occupation troops carried out another combined attack on peaceful cities, trying to undermine the morale of Ukrainians in the rear. However, the coordinated work of the Air Force, rescue services and fierce resistance on the front line once again thwarted the enemy’s strategic plans. The main events of the day, the situation in the rear regions and operational data from the front are reported by the analytical service of the information portal 34.ua.

Rocket terror against the capital and attacks on the infrastructure of the Odessa region

The enemy does not abandon attempts to attack the logistics and residential areas of large cities in Ukraine, using tactics to exhaust our air defense system.

Combined strike on Kyiv and the region: during the night and morning hours, the capital was subjected to massive shelling using ballistic weapons and cruise missiles. Air defense forces repelled most of the air targets, but damage to residential buildings in Podilskyi, Darnytskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts was recorded as a result of falling debris . A large-scale rescue operation is underway at the sites of the hits in Podilskyi district, where a nine-story building was damaged, with the participation of the State Emergency Service. The city authorities have declared a day of mourning for the deceased.

Drone attack on Odessa: Southern regions of Ukraine were attacked by Shahed-type strike drones at night. Destruction in the private sector and damage to civilian infrastructure (a dormitory and a parking lot) were recorded in Odessa. One local resident was injured and is receiving all necessary medical care.

In parallel, the enemy carried out an artillery strike on the Donetsk region, which hit a DTEK repair team in Kramatorsk – three energy workers were injured while performing restoration work, which once again confirms the occupiers’ targeted hunt for civilian specialists.

Situation on the contact line: record intensity of fighting and the response of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the intensity of fighting on the front remains critically high – about 260 clashes have been recorded per day. The occupiers continue to exert the greatest pressure on the Pokrovsky, Sloviansk and Hulyaypil directions. However, the Defense Forces are not only restraining the invasion, but also inflicting painful blows on the enemy’s rear support. In particular, three strategic objects in the territory of the temporarily occupied Luhansk region were successfully hit at night – an overpass, UAV warehouses and a Russian military equipment base.

Total enemy losses per day remain consistently high: over 1,400 invaders were eliminated, 7 tanks, 16 armored vehicles, and more than 60 artillery systems were destroyed.

Expert opinions

Mykhailo Volkov, military-political analyst, expert in the field of national security: “Massive strikes on Kyiv and Odessa against the backdrop of fierce pressure on Donbas indicate that Russia is trying to use its military-industrial potential to the maximum while the summer campaign of the fifth year of the war continues. However, the tactics of the occupiers are failing: air defense demonstrates miracles of efficiency, and the strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Luhansk region prove that our generals are outsmarting the enemy in the matter of destroying military logistics. Ukraine needs more anti-missile systems from partners, because it is the closed sky that is the key to our long-term endurance.”

Anna Dmytrenko, independent lawyer, specialist in international humanitarian law: “The deliberate shelling of residential buildings in Kyiv and Odessa, as well as the injuries of repair crews of power engineers in Kramatorsk, are direct and undeniable war crimes that have no statute of limitations. Each such incident is carefully documented by the military prosecutor’s office and the SBU for further transfer to the International Criminal Court. The Russian leadership and the direct executors of orders must realize that legal responsibility for the genocide of the Ukrainian people will overtake them, no matter how many years this war lasts.”

Practical safety recommendations for civilians:

Strict adherence to air raid siren rules: Given the enemy’s changing tactics and his ability to launch repeated massive strikes in short periods of time, the Air Force urges not to ignore sirens. Always head for cover or use the two-wall rule.

Information silence regarding the work of air defense: it is strictly forbidden to film the work of air defense systems, record the geolocation of debris, or post photos of destruction before official OVA reports appear. The enemy uses social media to adjust the next waves of strikes.

Power grid support and coordination: Residents of rear areas, including the Dnipropetrovsk region, should be prepared for possible emergency restrictions due to shelling of neighboring regions. Ensure a supply of water, keep power banks charged, and use official maps of “Points of Invincibility” in case of prolonged blackouts.
