This Saturday brought new challenges for the security sector of Ukraine, but the Defense Forces continue to demonstrate high efficiency both in repelling air threats and in containing the enemy’s unprecedented infantry pressure. Against the backdrop of fierce defensive battles , Ukraine is increasing the capabilities of its long-range UAV fleet, transferring the war directly to the military infrastructure of the Russian Federation. The main events of the 1585th day of full-scale confrontation are analyzed by the columnist of the information portal 34.ua.
News 1: Air terror in Sumy region — occupiers launched a massive strike on Okhtyrka, 10 civilians were injured
On the night and in the morning of June 27, Russian troops carried out a massive drone attack on the city of Okhtyrka, in Sumy Oblast. According to the head of the Sumy OAV, Oleg Grigorov, 10 people were injured as a result of enemy strikes and falling debris. Significant destruction of civilian infrastructure was recorded in the city, residential buildings and cars were damaged. Emergency response headquarters were promptly deployed at the sites of the strikes, and units of the State Emergency Service and medics are working. In total, the Air Force neutralized and suppressed 113 enemy drones of various types (Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas) using electronic warfare means across the country.
Expert opinion (Mykhailo Zhirokhov, military and security analyst):
“The strike on Okhtyrka is a continuation of the tactics of systemic terror in the border and frontline regions of Sumy and Kharkiv regions. The enemy’s use of a mix of classic “Shaheds” and cheaper drone-simulators like “Gerbera” is aimed at exhausting our mobile fire groups as much as possible. The fact that the air defense shot down and landed more than 110 UAVs is a colossal success, but the density of the raid in the border area leaves little time to react, which led to hits in the civilian sector of Okhtyrka.”
News 2: Hot spots on the front — the General Staff records a record 256 clashes, the heaviest in the Pokrovsky and Slavyansky directions
According to the morning report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, an unprecedented number of clashes were recorded on the front line over the past 24 hours – 256 combat tensions. The epicenter of the attack remains the Pokrovsky direction, where Ukrainian defenders stopped 31 assaults in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Rodynske and Sergiivka. Also, extremely high enemy activity was observed in the Slavyansk direction (29 attacks) and Hulyaipilske (24 assault actions). Despite the fierce pressure and the enemy’s use of 270 guided aerial bombs (CAB), the Defense Forces are holding their positions. 1,350 occupiers were eliminated over the past 24 hours, and the total enemy losses are approaching 1.4 million people.
Expert opinion (Ihor Melnyk, military observer, infrastructure analyst):
“The figure of 256 clashes per day is one of the highest in recent times. This indicates that the Russian Federation’s summer offensive campaign has reached its peak and the enemy is trying to push the front in several areas at the same time, not counting the huge losses in manpower. The Pokrovskaya sector remains logistically important, so the stability of our brigades there directly affects the stability of the entire Donetsk group. Effective destruction of enemy artillery (58 systems per day) is exactly the asymmetric tool that disrupts the pace of their advance.”
News 3: Long-range response — explosions at a defense plant in Volgograd in the morning
Explosions were heard not only in Ukraine last night and early morning. In Volgograd, Russia, local residents reported an attack by long-range drones on one of the leading defense plants in the region, which serves the Russian military-industrial complex. Russian publics distributed videos with the sounds of a UAV flying over and a powerful detonation in an industrial zone. The American publication The Wall Street Journal noted in its today’s analytical material that Ukraine has found a weak spot in Russia, significantly modernizing and increasing the production of its own long-range technological drones for strikes on rear refineries and factories.
Expert opinion (Olena Borsuk, lawyer, international analyst):
“From the point of view of international law, strikes on military-industrial complex facilities on the territory of an aggressor country are an absolutely legitimate form of self-defense. The systematic transfer of fire to such deep rear areas as Volgograd or Moscow destroys the internal Russian narrative of a ‘safe war behind the TV’. WSJ assessments confirm: the Ukrainian strategy of economic and logistical bloodletting of Russia through drones of its own production is beginning to have a long-term cumulative effect, which the Russian air defense is unable to cope with.”
Other events in Ukraine in brief
Sanctions pressure: The President of Ukraine signed a decree extending sanctions against a number of foreign and Russian companies that provide service and supply components for the Russian military-industrial complex, as well as against collaborators.
Environmental diplomacy: Ukraine and Poland have officially signed two important intergovernmental agreements in the field of environmental protection and chemical safety, which will strengthen the integration of Ukrainian environmental standards with EU norms.
Sports pride: The Ukrainian national volleyball team demonstrated an excellent result in the League of Nations, winning its third consecutive confident victory in the group stage of the prestigious international tournament.
