Friday, July 17, brought Ukraine a number of fundamental political changes, military successes in confronting the enemy at sea and new security challenges on land. While the Verkhovna Rada approves the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers amid public debate, the Defense Forces continue to methodically destroy the economic potential of the aggressor in the Black and Azov Seas. At the same time, the night passed again to the accompaniment of sirens: the enemy used a massive swarm of drones and missiles against civilian infrastructure. As reported by the information portal 34.ua , the country is going through this stormy period in the maximum consolidation of the efforts of all state and military institutions.
News 1: Political earthquake in the capital: Serhiy Koretsky headed the Cabinet of Ministers amid personnel rotations
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved the appointment of Serhiy Koretsky, former head of Naftogaz of Ukraine and Ukrnafta, as the country’s new Prime Minister. He replaced Yulia Svyrydenko in this position. The new Prime Minister called the main challenges for his government urgent preparations for the winter period in conditions of generation deficit, attracting investments in the defense industry, and stabilizing the financial system. At the same time, society is vigorously discussing personnel changes in the Armed Forces (in particular, the transfer of Vitaly Kim to the Ministry of Veterans Affairs) and the recent resignation of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, which caused protests in several cities.
Expert opinion (Political analyst): “The arrival of Serhiy Koretsky to the Cabinet of Ministers is an attempt to strengthen the pragmatic, technocratic bloc of the government on the eve of the extremely difficult heating season. His experience in the fuel and energy sector is critically important for coordinating the actions of the government, energy professionals, and international donors. However, the personnel shake-up in the Ministry of Defense and regional administrations creates additional tension, which the new prime minister will have to level with the most balanced first steps and open dialogue with society.”
News 2: Black Sea Trap: Unmanned Systems Forces Hit 12 More Ships of the Russian “Shadow Fleet”
The Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) Robert Brovdi (“Magyar”) reported on another successful stage of the special operation “MoLoChKa”. On the night of July 17, Ukrainian naval drones carried out a massive attack in the Black Sea, disabling 12 Russian vessels (9 dry cargo ships, 1 tanker, 1 gas carrier and 1 tugboat). In total, since July 6, the USF has already hit 159 occupier vessels. The goal of the operation is to completely block the illegal logistics of Russian oil and military cargo without environmental damage (the ships are disabled without destroying the tanks).
Expert opinion (Naval expert): “The tactics of asymmetric warfare at sea, demonstrated by our Unmanned Systems Forces, will be included in military art textbooks. Russia tried to circumvent sanctions with the help of a huge “shadow fleet” that financed the war. The successive decommissioning of more than one and a half hundred ships in less than two weeks effectively paralyzes Russian maritime exports in the region. This is a colossal blow to the Russian budget, inflicted solely due to Ukrainian technological superiority.”
News 3: Combined attack on Ukraine: Air Defense eliminated 115 drones and 5 enemy missiles
On the night of July 17, the Russian army launched 8 missiles of various types (including the guided Kh-59/69 and anti-radar Kh-31P) and a record 130 strike UAVs over Ukraine, including both simulator drones for exhausting air defense and new jet modifications. The air defense forces demonstrated iron resistance, destroying 115 drones and 5 missiles. Unfortunately, Odesa (destruction and two deaths were recorded), Sumy and Kharkiv regions were affected by falling debris and direct hits. Also in the Donetsk region, an enemy FPV drone hit a civilian car, killing two people.
News 4: Symbol of solidarity: Updated lists of Ukrainian prisoners of war presented to the Pope
The Vatican continues to actively participate in humanitarian mediation processes. Cardinal Matteo Zuppi was given updated lists of Ukrainian prisoners of war and deported children held in the Russian Federation. This move should increase diplomatic pressure on Moscow to accelerate the “all-for-all” exchanges and the return home of civilian hostages and military personnel held in extremely difficult conditions in Russian captivity.
ANALYTICS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CITIZENS
The country is in a stage of deep internal adaptation — from changing the government’s course to strengthening the defense perimeter at sea and in the sky. Every Ukrainian must remain part of this unified resistance mechanism.
Practical recommendations:
Respond immediately to alarms: The enemy has begun to use drones and ballistics more frequently, which significantly reduces decision-making time. At the first sound of a siren, head for the nearest shelter or use the tried-and-tested two-wall rule in an apartment.
Support for the technological army: Operation “MoLoChKa” and successful strikes on the enemy fleet are a direct result of daily donations from Ukrainians. Continue to support the procurement of naval and air drones for the Unmanned Systems Forces – every hryvnia brings the enemy’s logistical collapse closer.
Information silence and hygiene: it is strictly forbidden to publish footage of air defense operations, smoke from arrivals, or photos of damaged objects on social networks, chat rooms, or instant messengers before official press releases from the State Emergency Service or military administrations appear.
Psychological resilience amid changes: political rotations in the Cabinet of Ministers and personnel changes should not become a reason for panic or internal strife. Our strength lies in the unity of society and the army, and the only guideline remains support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
