Ukraine News July 2, 2026

Ольга ПетроваОльга Петрова—02.07.20260

Kyiv, July 2, 2026. The beginning of the second month of summer brought a complex combined load to Ukraine. An abnormal wave of wear and tear, which covered most regions, superimposed on the critical situation in the fuel and energy sector and prolonged tension on the front line. As reported by the analytical department of the information portal 34.ua , state institutions, military units and utility services of the country are today forced to work in high-intensity coordination to ensure the stability of critical infrastructure and the safety of the civilian population.

News 1: Record consumption limits and strict power outage schedules

On Thursday, July 2, the National Energy Company Ukrenergo was forced to implement extended hourly power outage schedules across the entire territory of Ukraine. The main destabilizing factor was a sharp spike in consumption due to abnormal heat: in most regions, thermometers exceeded +32°C … +35°C.

To balance the power system during peak hours (from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), three, and in some regions, four, outages are being used simultaneously. The situation is complicated by ongoing scheduled repairs at nuclear power plant units, which are essential for covering the deficit. The Ministry of Energy is continuously importing electricity from neighboring European countries — Romania, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary — at maximum technical capacity to minimize the duration of power outages for industrial enterprises and hospitals.

News 2: Consolidation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and activation in key areas

The situation on the front line remains dynamic and tense. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over 110 clashes were recorded during the day. The greatest intensity of the enemy’s assault operations remains in the Pokrovsky and Torets directions, where the enemy is trying to break through the defense with the support of a significant number of guided aerial bombs (GABs) and artillery.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repel the attacks, inflicting significant losses on the occupiers in manpower and equipment. In addition, the Air Force and mobile fire groups repelled another massive attack by kamikaze drones at night, neutralizing more than 180 air targets in the southern and central regions of the country. The command is under special control over the northern border, where constant engineering reinforcement of the defense lines is being carried out.

News 3: Digitalization and social support — launch of new services in “Diya”

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine announced the successful implementation of another package of electronic services on the portal and in the “Diya” application. From today, a fully automated service for processing compensation for damaged property within the framework of the “eRecovery” program has become available to citizens without the need to visit local government bodies.

The system also integrates updated functionality for small and medium-sized businesses, which allows you to receive government grants for the purchase of alternative power sources (solar panels, inverters, and powerful generator sets) in a few clicks. This step is designed to support Ukrainian entrepreneurs in the face of a protracted energy crisis and stimulate the decentralization of the country’s energy grid.

Expert opinions

Andriy Savchenko, a leading analyst in the field of energy security and macroeconomics: “Today’s peak consumption has demonstrated that the climate factor has become as much a threat to Ukraine’s energy system as the physical destruction of infrastructure. When the temperature rises above +30 degrees, the efficiency of transformer equipment decreases, and networks experience excessive resistance. In today’s realities, Ukraine cannot rely only on imports or repairs of large units. It is urgently necessary to accelerate the construction of distributed generation facilities – gas turbine and gas piston plants in each industrial node. Only in this way will we be able to get through not only this difficult July, but also prepare for winter highs.”

Valeriy Kozak, military observer, tactical weapons specialist: “The intensification of fighting in the east and the use of modernized CABs indicate the enemy’s attempts to make the most of the summer period to push through our defense line, while logistics on dirt roads are optimal. It is important to understand that the Ukrainian army is currently operating in conditions of tight ammunition economy, but is effectively compensating for this through the widespread use of FPV drones and reconnaissance drones of domestic production. The key task for July remains the depletion of the enemy’s offensive potential and the holding of strategic heights until the full deployment of additional air defense systems from Western partners.”

Recommendations for citizens during the summer peak period

Specialists from relevant departments urge Ukrainians to adapt their lives to current conditions:

Smart consumption: during the hours when the power supply is restored according to the schedule, do not turn on several powerful appliances at the same time (boiler, air conditioner, washing machine). This will avoid accidents at local substations.

Food and medical safety: due to high air temperatures, strictly follow the rules for storing food and medicines. In case of prolonged shutdowns of refrigerators, use cold accumulators and minimize opening of device doors.

Home autonomy: replenish drinking water supplies in a timely manner and keep power banks and flashlights charged in case of emergency or unplanned network restrictions.
