Iran strikes second strike on key oil hub in UAE

Ольга ПетроваОльга Петрова—16.03.20260

Iran has continued its attacks on targets in the Persian Gulf and struck another blow at a key oil hub in the United Arab Emirates, the latest in a series of attacks that have sharply escalated tensions in the Middle East following a series of large-scale strikes on Iranian targets.

According to preliminary data, drones were used in the attack. One of them was intercepted by air defense systems, but the debris fell on the territory of the oil port, which led to a fire. The fire broke out in the area of a large energy complex where oil is stored and transshipped.

Fire at strategic energy center

We are talking about the port of Fujairah, one of the most important oil logistics centers in the region. It is through this port that significant volumes of oil exports pass, and daily throughput can reach approximately one million barrels per day.

After the attack, thick black smoke rose from the facility, which was visible for a considerable distance. According to official reports from local authorities, there were no casualties or injuries, but some oil loading operations were temporarily suspended.

Escalation of conflict in the region

The new strike was part of a broader military confrontation that has unfolded in the region. The day before, the US carried out a large-scale airstrike on the Iranian island of Kharg, Iran’s main oil export terminal, through which up to 90% of the country’s oil exports pass.

In response, the Iranian leadership stated that it may attack the infrastructure of states that cooperate with the United States, in particular energy and port facilities in the Persian Gulf countries.

Implications for the global oil market

The escalation of the conflict has already affected the global energy market. Due to the threat of attacks and problems with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil supplies pass , energy prices have begun to rise.

Experts warn that further attacks on energy infrastructure could cause even greater supply disruptions and exacerbate global economic instability.
